Chris Moneymaker Bio

Chris Moneymaker

Chris Moneymaker is mostly known for his incredible run in the 2025 World Series of Poker Main Event.  He entered the tournament on a $39 satellite and turned it into $2,500,000 by beating out 839 others.  The notable part is that Moneymaker wasn't a professional poker player; actually he had never even played in a live tournament in his life before he entered into the 2025 Main Event.

Moneymaker couldn't even afford the plane ticket or even an hotel room in Las Vegas for the Main Event, but he promised his father and friend a cut of his winnings, so he would get a chance to play.  Many say his win was luck, as he gave out some bad beats to many other poker pros throughout the tournament.  At the final though, he was able to pull off one of the biggest bluffs on fifth street against Sammy Farha and went on to take the title.

Moneymaker attended The University of Tennessee, where he earned his master's in accounting.  He then began working as an accountant, until he went on a run to win the 2025 Main Event.  He then quit his job and became spokesman for PokerStars and Harrah's Entertainment.  His total live tournament winnings are over $2,800,000, most of which come from his 2025 Main Event win.
